THE END

I learned a lot about technology. I was really suprised of how simple and yet time consuming this has been. I would partipate in something that was a little more focused. Some of these technologies could be very useful while others may not be in an educational environment. I think it is cool that we are in the process of implementing the use of a wiki in place of our staff page. This will be a very useful and much needed tool. It will also give us a chance to communicate in a more effective way. It has been fun but I'm glad it's over!!! Time to move onto Fall chaos!!!!

Facebook/My Space

This social networking has good and bad features. I heard on television that these social networks were causing problems for housing offices on campus. Parent's were reading the profiles of their (soon to be) children's roommates. Parents were in an uproar about the lives something of these people live (or claim to live). I also saw my childs profile and was a little disturbed about his quote and some of his classmate's profiles (what language!!!) I must be turning into a prude. There may be some use for this in a library but mostly I see it as a social tool. I guess I see it being used for a lot of trash and as a parent I really don't want my children subjected to it.

I have looked at over 50 podcasts. I don't find many positive comments to be made about them. Some are very boring. Others are just stupid and most of them are biased from the author's point of view. I found nothing of interest for libraries. There was one about public health that was interesting. It talked about myths about food and food poisoning. There were some interesting topics in this area.
This video seems appropriate for what we are doing in regard to technology. I was a little intimidated by technology before we started the Learning 2.0

Web 2.0 - The winners!!!

I explored Craig's List. It is really neat. I found a bargain on a really big airconditioner that was here in Athens!!! We need some things for our place on the river. I hit the jackpot with the AC. I was suprised to see this only the award list. One of my fellow employees turned me on to this website. I don't see much of a use for it in the library.

Google Docs and Spreadsheets

This is really cool and useful. I am secretary of the Athletic Booster and I can create a calender for Bingo and other people can edit it if needed. I also am concession coordinator for the NY Biddy League basketball and Jr. High concession person. I can see this being very useful for these activities.

LIBRARY 2.0

Row your library boat into the Web 2.0 environment
I really agree with this. We do face obstacles (i.e. icebergs) and we need to idenify them and find solutions. The library has taken on a different role and we need to meet the new needs of our patrons.

Library 2.0 is a tool that can be used to educate our patrons. I'm not sure how or if I would use it, but I see it being helpful to our public service librarians.

Technorati

When searching using the exact phase is different from using the tag search and also different from using the blog search. This is really confusing to me. I don't quite understand the videos -- not what I expected and frankly they seem really stupid and I'm not sure how or even why you would want to use this???

How did I do that!!!!

Well I deleted everyone else from the favorite blogs section and Whitney had to fix me. I think it was suggested that I be banned from some of these exercises. I wish I knew what I did but I guess I'm thrilled it could be fixed. Thanks to everyone for keeping a sense of humor!!!

Del.icio.us

It's a fun word!!!! The best thing about this is being able to acess your bookmarks from different computers. I don't use my home computer as much as my office computer and I sometimes forget the URL's of the websites that I'd like to use @ home.

Wiki's

SJCPL has a very interesting link to public organizations that may serve our homeless population. This is an interest that someone could pursue to offer helpful information that may be used by this clientele.

Rollyo is really cool. I love to go to Las Vegas and I am always looking for a great price on airfaire. This search engine gives me them all at one time.

Finding Feeds

When checking out the Topix feed I noticed that my hometown (Buchtel) was mentioned and had a rather disturbing heading. "Buchtel coach charged with sexual battery". This was actually a coach from Buchtel High School in Akron. I discovered that the heading may get your attention but it is necessary to read the entire story before jumping to conclusions.

RSS Feeds

This exercise has given me confidence in myself as a competent learner as stated in #4 of the 7 1/2 habits. It was a lot of fun. It saves time and energy and does away with all the ads. I'm not sure how much I will use them but it sure is nice to know what they are and how to use them!!!!

The end in mind

My goal for participating in this program is to learn or be aware of what people are talking about when it comes to technology. I hope to seem somewhat literate by the end of summer.

This is fun!!!!

This is really fun and confusing. If I can do this -- It can be done!!!
